How SAFE started
Our story began in the year of 2023 when our fellow members organised a Philippine festival in Kloten last June 2023. It was a big success and it became popular. It was followed by a comedy show that was organised by Ms. Aira Kistler, the current chairman of the board.
Since then, the team has been motivated by what we have started, and we have been consistent in producing shows and Openair Festivals that have garnered immense attention and appreciation from the community.
The comedy show, in particular, was a huge hit, with attendees laughing uncontrollably at the witty jokes and hilarious antics of the GMA Network performers namely Norman Balbuena A.K.A. Boobay, Ian Red and Pepita Curtis with our front acts from Switzerland’s Philippine talents. It was a night to remember, and many people were already asking when the next event would take place.
Due to popular demand, the same artists came back and even extended gigs to Italy and Germany on the same year (2024). The enthusiastic response from fans led to additional concert dates being added in Rome, Stuttgart, Geneva and Zurich cementing the artists’ international appeal. This successful European leg of the tour further solidified their reputation as a must-see live act, with critics praising their high-energy performances and devoted fan base.
The success of the comedy show was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team, and it further solidified our commitment to bringing people together through entertainment.
As the months went by, our team continued to work tirelessly to bring new and exciting events to the community. We organised cultural performances, food festivals, and even a charity run to raise funds for our designated beneficiaries. Each event was meticulously planned and executed, with attention to detail and a focus on providing an unforgettable experience for our attendees.
Our Openair Festivals, The Philippine Independence Day, The Philippine Festival in particular, became a staple of the community’s social calendar. We would transform the open spaces into vibrant hubs of activity, with live music, delicious food, and interactive games and activities for all ages. It was a time for people to come together, relax, and enjoy each other’s company in a beautiful outdoor setting. We would often receive feedback from attendees saying that our events were the highlight of their summer, and that they looked forward to them all year round.
As our reputation grew, so did our team. We began to attract volunteers and sponsors from all over the country, who were drawn to our passion and commitment to the community. We were able to establish partnerships with local businesses and organisations, which enabled us to secure funding and resources to support our events. It was a truly collaborative effort, with everyone working together towards a common goal.
It was a testament to our hard work and dedication, and it validated the impact that we had been making in the community. We were overwhelmed with congratulations and messages of support from the community, and it further motivated us to continue doing what we do best.
As we look back on our journey, we are proud of what we have achieved. We have created a sense of community and belonging, and have provided a platform for people to come together and celebrate their diversity. We have also inspired a new generation of event organisers and volunteers, who are passionate about making a difference in their community.
We are the first to hold a 3-day Philippine Festival event throughout Europe. This year is our 3rd consecutive year of celebration, marking a significant milestone in our efforts to promote Filipino culture, heritage, and traditions across the continent.
Since our inception, our organization has been driven by a passion to bring the Filipino community together, to foster a sense of belonging and identity, and to share our rich cultural diversity with the European public. Over the years, we have worked tirelessly to create an event that is not only entertaining but also educational, informative, and inclusive.
Our 3-day-festival is a testament to the vibrant spirit of the Filipino people, featuring a wide range of activities, performances, and exhibitions which showcase the best of our culture. From traditional folk dances, music, and cuisine to modern Filipino art, fashion, and technology, our festival offers something for everyone.
One of the highlights of our festival is the cultural show, which features a spectacular display of traditional Filipino dances, such as the Tinikling, Pandanggo sa ilaw, and Sinulog, performed by talented Filipino artists. Our culinary section is also a crowd favorite, offering a variety of traditional Filipino dishes, prepared by renowned Filipino chefs and food enthusiasts.
In addition to the cultural and culinary attractions, our festival also features a trade exhibition, which provides a platform for Filipino entrepreneurs and small business owners to showcase their products and services, including handicrafts, fashion accessories, and food products. This initiative aims to promote economic cooperation and trade between the Philippines and Europe, while also supporting the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Another key component of our festival is the cultural exchange program, which brings together Filipino and European artists, performers, and cultural practitioners for a series of workshops, masterclasses, and performances. This program aims to foster greater understanding and appreciation between the two cultures, while also promoting mutual respect and cooperation.
